Assessment 1 digital images part 1

  Image Types and Tools

  1. Vector art is the use of vector graphics to make art. They are graphics based on mathematical formulas that create lines and shapes etc.

  2. By using adobe illustrator you are able to create images that are made with vector art instead of pixels. This allows you to blow the work up to any size and not lose quality, whereas if you were to do the same with pixels quality would be lost.

  3. The purpose of the pen tool is to allow you to make shapes using curves. The brush and pencil tool are very similar except the brush tool can create fuzzy edges whereas the pencil tool cannot. You would use the pen tool when you would like to create a very structured and precise shape. With the brush or pencil tool you would use it to create a shape or line which would have a custom or different stroke.

  4. a) The first and third images are both similar because they are both silhouettes compared to the second which is a colourful portrait. 1 and 3 look like they have been done with the pen tool due to the simplicity of them both where as picture 2 is more detailed so it is done with brush or the pencil tool in order to create all the detailed shapes and strokes.

b) I believe all these images work well because they all depict exactly what they are meant to without any confusion. The first image works well because you can tell its obviously a bull terrier but you also like it because it is almost cartoonish in the way it is illustrated which makes it a fun image. The second one is a detailed portrait which works because it has a sense of realism due to the detail. The third one is extremely simple but powerful due to the silhouette which shows what it is while being only shadows.
